2015 – The Best Year Ever

Oh man, there was so many awesome things this year.  Does it get any better than 2015?  I don’t think so.  2016 is going to have to work pretty hard to compare to this past year.  Let’s go over what made this the best year ever.

Uptown Funk

Yeah,  this song actually came out at the tail-end of 2014, but it was popular all throughout 2015 – and all throughout 2015 I couldn’t help singing along to it, every time I heard it.  I love this song.  There is still new pop music worth listening.  For every “Watch Me” that strives to destroy music as a form of entertainment – we have an “Uptown Funk” to keep new music worth listening to.   My daughter introduced me to the song “Cheerleader” by OMI which I also liked – so I’ve not yet lost faith in the music industry.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Hell yeah!

Actually, if you want my list of the best films of 2015, here ya go.  A few titles, off the of my head, in no particular order:

  • Mad Max: Fury Road
  • Inside Out
  • Kingsman: The Secret Service
  • Room
  • It Follows

Plenty to Watch on Television

Let’s face it, “television” is a pretty broad term these days.  When you combine streaming series on Netflix into our regimen of shows we watch – there has been tons of quality this year.  The shows I’ve been watching which, for the most part, continued to enthrall me: Game of Thrones (no spoilers, but great season finale), Doctor Who (my favorite season since the Tom Baker era), The Walking Dead (had some problems this season, but I’m still watching), and Orange is the New Black (seriously, I love this show).  Then we had new series come along like Jessica Jones, Daredevil, The Man in the High Castle – all fantastic entertainment.

So while Hollywood continues to play it safe with movies and do the same thing over and over again – real risks are being taken in the worlds of television and streaming series.  There is a lot of originality out there in the myriad of episodic series available for every taste.  There’s plenty of other great shows that I’ve not mentioned because I’m not familiar with them – but they have the adoration and respect of their fans.

Fallout 4

I’ll admit I’ve not played this game yet – I’ve rather fallen out of love with video games as I’ve far too many other things going on in my life.  But I always loved the Fallout series ever since I encountered the first game so many years.  Just the existence of a new game is enough to make me happy – and all the memes and images with PipBoy that pop up in my feed never fail to bring a smile to my face.

Ariana Grande Licked a Donut

This event was totally innocuous:  This gal, who just happened to be a pop singer, licked a donut and said “I hate America.”  Big fucking deal.  But the way society and the internet flipped their creative shit over this was hilarious.  “Some girl hates America!?  ARRGGGHHH .”  I’m still laughing about it, still catch myself going back to that video of her licking a donut and hating America because of just how mad everyone got about it.  People went towards this like it was the greatest tragedy in the world – this was real scandal, OMFG!  How could anyone hate America, of all places; and licking a donut is just rude.

Oh TMZ… Never stop being the laughing-stock of journalism.

The truth is, America sucks.  You lick that donut and tell it like is Ariana.  You go girl.
