It has been announced that production on the new Star Wars movie has started and is still directed by “Lost” creator and “Star Trek” director J.J. Abrams. This fact was announced by Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn. He also stated that the film has December 2015 as its current release date.
Mr. Horn had given this information while being interviewed by THR’s Stephen Galloway as part of the Hollywood Masters series. Here is discussed big events of his career like owning Castle Rock Entertainment and while he was president of Warner Brothers he over saw the Harry Potter franchise and guiding the same studio in dealing with the unexpected death of “The Dark Knight” actor Heath Ledger. He also gave a discussion on the importance focusing on international markets and how the market has the capacity to grow to lead to more money for the business.
As for any more information on the current Star Wars, he said that the film takes place 35 years after Return of the Jedi. While there are rumors, no cast members have been announced as of yet. He also admitted that they had some screenplay problems in the beginning, but they now have it where they need it to be. The screenplay was written by Lawrence Kasdan and JJ Abrams and earlier drafts were done by Michael Arndt.
