Personal note: This and next week, I have to get through final projects in this semester. Although technically it’s not my last project in university, I have to put lots of efforts there (and I’m kinda nervous about it, to be honest). So I’m not sure I’ll review next episode of South Park right on time or not. I’ll try my best
Another episode of South Park is right here. And what can I tell ya?
The boys enter the real world of sports known as “Cock Magic”, which is basically two cocks playing Magic card games. Unfortunately, Randy misunderstands Cock Magic as another form and he tries to bring back his own style of cock magic again.
Surprisingly, lots of reviewers out there think that this is a great episode. I have no idea why they say that. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fun episode to watch…but it’s not as good as what we’ve seen in Freemium Isn’t Free, The magic Bush, and Handicar. Let’s take a look at each issues discussed here….
– Animal rights
It looks like SP crew wants to tackle the illegal animal fights problem. Unfortunately, it’s not clear enough what SP crew wants to say to us. This is totally opposite to what they did in Douche vs. Turd episode (which is my all-time favorite episode of the show). In that one, they making fun of PETA about their extremely stupid attitudes towards animal. But here, I’m not sure what they want to say? Should we make these fights legal or should animals have more rights? The plot doesn’t tell us anything about it at all, although it has a pretty good set-up: the boys buy a new chicken named McNugget (get it?) and Kenny trains it to be a great card game player, although he’s kinda nervous about animal rights issue. Then, it becomes the hottest chicken in a Cock Magic circuit…until a match in which it has to fight another great cock, so Kenny has to fight with it instead.
As you can see, I have no idea what should we learn about this topic.
– Hobbies for boys and girls
Another storyline is this episode is about hobbies and sports. While the girls try so hard to bring Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman to volleyball games, the boys don’t give a damn about it at all. Instead, they prefer watching friends playing Magic card games. This teaches us something about gender’s value. We all have different interesting and if boys don’t care about what girls doing…that doesn’t mean we are misogynist or sexist. It’s called a variety of life and living together.
– Cock/dick jokes
Here’s my favorite part. Randy’s scheme and what happened around him are mostly consist of cock and dick jokes. Well, we ll know what kind of cock joke is, right? So let’s get in to a dick joke here. Dick jokes in this episode are basically about a confusion between the word “deck” (which describes a set of card) and the word “dick”. It’s a childish joke, but it’s absolutely hilarious. Just look at the “climax” scene in the end, I guarantee you will laugh out loud!
Not as good as previous episodes, but still worth watching.
