“American Horror Story” co-creator Ryan Murphy tweeted a picture earlier today announcing the subtitle of season four will be titled “Freak Show.” This is a confirmation of what writer Douglas Petrie already stated, that the season would be about a carnival or circus.
Jessica Lange returns, this time as a German expatriate who manages a freak show, quite rare for the year 1950, which the story is set in. Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy and potentially Denis O’Hare and Emma Roberts will all return, now as the various outcasts that Lange has “rescued” and employed. The 13 episodes of “Freak Show” will follow the groups attempts to keep their business around in a world that has moved past such attractions.
“American Horror Story” is a rather unusual anthology series in that it’s stories don’t last an episode, but a whole season. The first season followed a family moving into a haunted house, the second centered around an insane asylum, and the third a coven of witches. The stories don’t intersect at all but many of the actors return from season to season, playing different characters.
“American Horror Story: Freak Show” will begin airing in October. Are you excited for the new season?
