In 2011 Nike designed a limited-edition pair of tennis shoes modeled after the ones Michael J. Fox wore in “Back to the Future II,” called the Nike Air Mags. While a cool design there is one thing they lacked and that was the self-tying power laces. That however is set to change.
Nike designer Tinker Hatfield told shoe news website Sole Collector that a pair of Nike shoes with power laces will be available next year. As fans of the “Back to the Future” movies will know 2015 is the same year Marty travels to in the sequel.
“Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!”
Hatfield did not specify if these laces will appear on a new model of the Nike Air Mags or on an entirely new product.
Only 1,500 pairs of the 2011 Air Mags were made and they could only be purchased on eBay. All the proceeds from the sales went to Michael J. Fox Foundation. Prices ranged from $10,000 a pair to $90,000 and resulted in $6 million for the foundation.
Would you pick up a pair of shoes with power laces? Let us known in the comments.
