First it was Marvel, then it was Lucasfilm and now who has The Disney Company bought up? The company announced on Monday they have purchased Maker Studios, the multichannel Youtube network.
Maker Studios is one of the most successful internet entertainment providers with 55,000 channels, 380 million subscribers and a monthly viewership of 5.5 billion. They have created content with celebrities such as Snoop Dogg and Kevin Smith, however they are most famous for producing the popular Epic Rap Battles of History series. “Disney is synonymous with the best entertainment and is the ideal partner for us, strengthening our position as the leading player in online video,” said Ynon Kreiz, Executive Chairman and CEO of Maker Studios.
With a payment of $550 million dollars to the stock holders, Maker Studios will now be answering to the mouse for future content approvals. As of now, there are no reports of any changes or plans that Disney wishes to push through their newest purchase.
