Do you enjoy listening to podcasts as much as I, and the fellow contributors to Geek Juice Media, do? If so, here is a Kickstarter campaign you might want to check out and lend your support to.
Graham Elwood and Chris Mancini, the guys behind the website and podcast “Comedy Film Nerds,” are making a documentary on podcasting called “Ear Buds: The Podcast Documentary.” They have five days left to go on their Kickstarter campaign and so far they have raised $50,574. Their goal is $135,000.
The documentary will feature interviews with well-known podcasters, such as Doug Benson of “Doug Loves Movies,” Marc Maron of “WTF with Marc Maron,” Jimmy Pardo of “Never Not Funny,” Aisha Tyler of “Girl on Guy” and the crew of “Welcome to Night Vale,” discussing what podcasting to means to them and how it has impacted their live and careers. The interviews were filmed at the Los Angeles Podcast Festival last year, which Mancini and Elwood helped put on.
However that is just part of the film. The documentary will also focus on the personal connection between podcasters and fans . Mancini, in an interview with Radio Survivor, says that just having the interviews with the podcasters “would tell only half the story, and that’s not really what we want to do, the other half is the fan. We’re actually going to travel across the country and meet and talk to the fans, to see that connection up close.”
Elwood added: “I want to show Marc Maron doing his podcast in his garage, then I want to see the fan in the middle of nowhere listening to it. Maybe in his tractor, or at home or work. Show how podcasting affects his life, that’s what we really want to do.”
The duo also hopes the documentary will expose more people to the world of podcasting. Elwood said to Radio Survivor “Something like 80% of the population doesn’t even know what a podcast is, I hope that this documentary can open doors, so that people see it and go, ‘Wow, this is something I want to be part of.’”
