Marvel May Be Developing a Black Widow Movie

Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige, in an interview with Total Film magazine, hinted that a stand-alone movie featuring Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow may be in the works.

There is no word yet on whether the film is in active development or simply just an idea at this point. However Black Widow is definitely becoming much more of a priority to the studio. Feige says the character will play a huge role in the upcoming Avengers sequel and April’s “Captain America: The Winter Solider” will be an important film in the development of the character.

Here is what Feige had to say regarding Widow’s role in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and on plans for a standalone film.

“(Black) Widow’s part in that is very big. We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that. When we meet the Avengers at the top of ‘Age of Ultron,’ it’s a very different landscape than we left them at the end of the first film. Partially, that’s because we love the rhythm that the comic books have developed — each of the characters appear in their runs, occasionally they get together for a big event or crossover series, they part again, and then they come back together again.”

Chris Evans, Johansson’s co-star in “Captain America: The Winter Solider” had this to say on the importance of the film to Black Widow’s character.

“[The Story revolves around] her coming to terms with her history, that she’s been a spy, and spies aren’t necessarily trustworthy,”

Plans for a stand-alone Black Widow film go as far back as “Iron Man 2.” It is unknown if the movie would be a part of Marvel’s Third Phase of films, which so far includes “Ant-Man,” “Doctor Strange,” and the third installments of Captain America, The Avengers and Thor. According to Feige Marvel has films planned through 2021 so it would not be surprising if a Black Widow is included on that list.

I will keep you all updated on any future developments of Black Widow movie?
