Next season on “Doctor Who” Peter Capaldi will be taking over as The Doctor. However it looks like we may also have a brand new companion joining Clara and The Doctor on their adventures next season.

Samuel Anderson has joined the cast of “Doctor Who” as a recurring character named Danny Pink. It hasn’t been confirmed if he will be a new companion. What is known however is the character is a school teacher at Coal Hill Secondary School, the same school where Jenna Coleman’s Clara Oswald teaches. Anderson will make his first appearance in the fourth episode of the new series.

Arthur Darvill’s character Rory Williams was originally just a recurring character. However by his second season on the show he became a full-fledged companion. We will just have to see what becomes of Danny Pink.

Anderson had this to say about joining the “Doctor Who” cast:

“I was so excited to join Doctor Who, I wanted to jump and click my heels but I was scared I might not come down before filming started,” Anderson said. “It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo.”

Anderson is best known for playing the role of Crowther in the play “The History Boys.” He reprised the role for the 2006 film adaptation. Other projects he has been involved include the British sitcom “Gavin & Stacey” and the British soap opera “Emmerdale,” in which he worked alongside Coleman.

Coal Hill School is a fairly important landmark in the history of “Doctor Who.” It appeared in the first episode of the series “An Unearthly Child” as the school where The Doctor’s granddaughter Susan Foreman was attending. She was taught by Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright, who became the first companions to board the TARDIS. Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy revisited the school in the episode “Remembrance of the Daleks.” The school most recently appeared in the 50th Anniversery special “Day of the Doctor” as the school where Clara is teaching.

“For the fourth time in ‘Doctor Who’ history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS,” lead writer executive producer Steven Moffat said. “In 1963, teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the First Doctor. These days it’s the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor.”
