Sir David Attenbourgh’s Latest Nature Doc Aiming for Oculus Rift Release

“Conquest of the Skies,” the upcoming nature documentary by Sir David Attenborough, will be released for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, along with traditional video formats.

John Morris, commercial director for Atlantic Productions, mentioned in an interview with realscreen that “we are now filming for the Oculus Rift” and that when they were filming parts of the film in Borneo, they used an 8 camera rig to get the full 360 experience. Morris compared the advent of the Oculus Rift with the birth of the film industry later in the interview.

Attenborough is the renowned nature documentarian who has done numerous nature documentaries for over 40 years. He is most noted for the “Life” series produced by the BBC.

This will be the first film to be designed for the Oculus Rift and while there isn’t a set date for the Oculus Rift release, “Conquest of the Skies” will be slated for television broadcast later this year.
