Star Wars films to get a digital release in April

April 9th @ 10:00 P.M. The Star Wars films (the original trilogy and the prequels) will be released digitally on April 10.

The six films will be bundled in the ‘Star Wars Movie collection’ which includes all six films in digital HD plus extra content like documentaries, featurettes and commentaries that comes with each film. The Star Wars Movie Collection will be available on various digital platforms including Itunes, Google Play, Amazon. The films can be purchased either in full(all six films plus bonus content) or individually. Pricing for individual films will be $19.99 or in the bundle for $89.99. Unfortunately, the versions used for the original trilogy digital release are The Special Editions.

This release is done in anticipation of the latest entry in the Star Wars universe, Star Wars Episode 7: The Force awakens which is set to be released in theaters December 18th.

I’m disappointed in the announcement, mainly due to the fact that a lot Star Wars fans will have to continue to wait for release of the original trilogy of Star Wars films that are not the Special Editions. That said, however, for those younger fans who may never have grown up with the pre 1997 version of the Star Wars trilogy, this is good news for them.

What do you guys think of all six Star Wars films getting a digital release? Let me know in the comments.
