Xbox live back online after hack attack

Xbox live is back up and running after the service was taken down in a DDOS attack in preparation for a larger strike during the holiday season.

The dedicated denial of service attack affected both Xbox 360 and Xbox One users in which consoles were coming up with the 80151909 error code which warns users that the xbox live profile failed to download. The DDOS attack mainly affected xbox users in North America.  The hacker group ‘Lizard Squad’ claimed responsibility for taking down Xbox live and alleged that this attack was just a dry run for a larger attack around Christmas.

This isn’t the first time ‘Lizard Squad’ took credit for hacking an online gaming service, back in August, the group claimed responsibility for taking Sony’s playstation network offline via DDOS as well as carrying out DDOS attacks against the online components to games like GTA 5, Destiny and League of Legends. The group also took credit for a bomb threat made against a commercial airliner that had Sony Online Entertainment president on board.
