Strange Magic

Alex Jowski: The animation is pretty but that’s about the only positive thing I can say about this movie. This looks and feels like EVERY animated film from the past few years. The same jokes, the same character tropes, the same sense of humor. This doesn’t feel like a new, original animated movie. It feels like they just took Epic and gave it a different voice cast. It would seem that Lucasfilm has entered the CGI animated film racket by photocopying every other movie that came before it. Actually, photocopy is too kind a word – this is the mimeograph of every other animated movie. I may not have seen Strange Magic before… but I’ve seen this movie a hundred times

Nuttawut Permphithak: It’s kinda interesting to see Lucasfilm makes an animation in Dreamworks style. Yep, it looks somehow like a Shrek spin-off. I have no idea that this happens because of Disney merging or not. Regardless, Lucasfilm should make a movie adaptation of Pipe Mania (a.k.a. Pipe Dream), a fun game from LucasArts that many people seem to forget.

William Wright: Hope the movie is better than this trailer. While most will see
FernGully: The Last Rainforest as the movie’s biggest influence, I am beginning to wonder if the story and the look has more connections to Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards. I wish I could can say that this looks like a very good movie, but I am open to becoming very surprised if it was.

Alessandro Hutt: All this trailer did was raise questions instead of generating interest. Who is the main character? What’s the plot of the film? Is it a comedy? Is it a musical? In what capacity is George Lucas involved? What’s with the weird romance hints? Whoever cut this trailer together has no clue how to make an enticing and coherent presentation. This is like a crash course in how not to edit a trailer. I’m sure kids are smart enough to see this and dismiss it for what it is – a jumbled mess of nothing.

mister X: to me, that was 2mins 45secs of THIS IS NOT FOR U!

i’m not the target audience and i’m no longer a fan of the creator

i’m probably too old n’ cynical to analyze this without tremendous bias

so i’m not even gonna try
