Animated “Haunted Mansion” Special in Works

The Walt Disney Company has announced plans to create an animated special based on the famous “Haunted Mansion” rides created for their parks. No word yet on anyone else who is involved with the special or when it will air/be released.

Since premiering in 1969 in Disneyland, many vacationers have longed to experience all the dark and creepy attractions, from the ghostly ballroom to the blood-curdling graveyard to the infamous phantom hitchhikers that are said to follow the people after they leave the ride. It has since been included in other Disney parks, like the Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disney and referenced in other Disney media. A critically panned film staring Eddie Murphy was released in 2003 and “Hellboy” director Guillermo del Toro has been in talks for years about creating a remake.

Gris Grimly (pictured above) has been named the production’s art director. He has gained fame for his art work on a number of horror books like “The Death of Yorik Mortwell,” “Edgar Allan Poe’s Tales of Death and Dementia,” and “Sipping Spiders Through a Straw,” He’s also working with Guillermo del Toro on his take on “Pinocchio.” You can check more of his art at Mad Creator Productions and his Deviant Art page.
