Betsy Palmer has died at 88

Actress Betsy Palmer has died due to natural causes on May 29, 2015. Born in 1926 and an actress since the 1950s, she was noted for her movie, television, and theater work. She was 88 years old.

Most of us know her as murderer Pamela Voorhees in Sean S. Cunningham’s 1980 film Friday the 13th. The character was a single mother of a badly mentally handicapped boy named Jason. While working in Camp Crystal Lake, Jason drowned in the lake. Since none of the camp counselors where paying attention (because they were off having sex), she went insane and killed some of the counselors. When the camp was reopen years later, she resumed her revenge on the new employees. After she died, Jason came back from the dead and continued his mother’s mission.

While she only appeared in the first two films in the franchise, she become a horror icon like Robert England or Bill Moseley. Many horror fans have expressed great sadness about her lost.

After film roles include Mister Roberts, The Tin Star, The True Story of Lynn Stuart, and Bell Witch: The Movie. Episodes of Marty, The Love Boat, Newhart, Charles In Charge, Toast of the Town, and Kraft Television Theatre are some of her many TV appearances.

Recently, she had been in hospice care before she died. She is survived by her daughter  Melissa Merendino. We at Geek Juice Media would like to send our condolences to her family, her friends, and all of her fans. Let us all remember the great entertainment she has given us over the years.

Do any of our readers have any kind words for Ms. Palmer? Please write them in the comments.
