Harry Shearer leaving The Simpson’s

May 17@10:30P.M. Harry Shearer, the voice behind many beloved Simpson’s characters including Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders and Principal Skinner among many others, has decided to leave The Simpsons after disagreements arose over back-end, merchandising rights, and pay.

According to the executives at The Simpsons, the main disagreement between Shearer and the show runners was pay. ‘Shearer was offered the same deal the rest of the cast accepted and passed. The show will go on and we wish him well’ read a statement from executive producer James L. Brooks, creator Matt Groening and show runner Al Jean.

Shearer has had a testy relationship with the show for sometime. Back in 2004, Shearer spoke to the Irish Examiner, blasting the show saying that it had creatively run out of gas.

I think this news is sad but not surprising; The Simpsons have been running on fumes  for years now and much of what made the show great and funny(engaging character, witty/biting social commentary and subtle humor) is no longer cache with the show runners. Losing someone like Shearer will hurt the show since he voiced many iconic characters and many of them more than likely won’t be the same. Hopefully, they’ll realize the show should come to an end.
