Joseph Gordon-Levitt leaves SANDMAN film over “Creative Differences”

The former star of 3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN has apparently decided that New Line Cinema’s intended approach to adapting the classic Neil Gaiman comic is going in a direction he can’t follow and made a public post on his facebook last Saturday regarding his decision:

We at Geek Juice don’t claim to be Hollywood insiders, but the fact that screenwriter Eric Hesserling (scripter of the future Pulitzer prize-winning FINAL DESTINATION 5) recently replaced Levitt’s original choice Jack Thorne MIGHT have been a factor in his decision. We also wonder why he thought a collaboration on such an important comic adaption with David S. Goyer was a wise move, given how Goyer’s been quoted as saying:

I think She-Hulk is the chick that you could fuck if you were Hulk, you know what I’m saying? … She-Hulk was the extension of the male power fantasy. So it’s like if I’m going to be this geek who becomes the Hulk then let’s create a giant green porn star that only the Hulk could fuck.

and then there was this:

Goyer asked the audience how many had actually heard of Martian Manhunter; following some applause, Goyer asked, “How many people that raised their hands have ever been laid?”

Given that Levitt really seemed to be a hardcore fan of the series, his departure seems to imply that New Line’s plans for SANDMAN will probably not mesh with what the fans expect…and we at Geek Juice are cool with it lingering forever in “development hell”.

Frankly, most fans of the series feel that unless done as a miniseries or in animation there’s no way the scope the project can be achieved…and perhaps that’s for the best-it’s already damn near perfect in its original form, maybe it doesn’t NEED to be adapted.
