GWARbar1Earlier this year, shock rock legends GWAR announced plans for a GWAR themed eating establishment. After the tragic death of Dave Brockie aka Oderus Urungus, the band still continued with this dream. Now, word has spread that the bar is opened for business.

Last year, GWAR released an Indiegogo page for in order to rise funds to create a bar in their home town of Richmond VA. While the fundraiser didn’t rise all the money, it did rise a good amount. The rest came when the band partnered Richmond local and restaurateur Travis Croxton to finish the GWAR Bar .

Located at 217 West Clay St Richmond VA, the build currently hold 40 seats (12 of which are at the bar). The building is decorated in full GWAR imagery, from the revolting to the cartoonish.

All menu items are 10 dollars or less and include munchables like hand ground beef burgers, gourmet hotdogs, gourmet mac and cheese, and (of course) the hand-made Twinkies. As a bar, they have bombs, GWAR inspired lowbrow craft cocktails, and tiki drinks.

“I wanted to do something where foodies would want to go, but also something where everyone would want to eat,” Derks said.

Currently the GWAR Bar is open 7 days a week from 4pm to 2am. They currently hoping that not only could they be open for more hours in the future, but will also have more room for more customers.

If I am ever in Richmond for any reason, I must try to find this place. I love GWAR’s music and their shock rock personas. I can’t stop kicking myself for missing a chance to see them live before Dave died. But I enjoy the new line-up and I hope to check them out on the next tour.

Anyone interested in the GWAR Bar? Have any of you been to the bar yet? Let us know in the comments.
