Stan Lee revealed at the c2e2 convention in Chicago this weekend that he will be making a cameo appearance in the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie, refuting claims he made earlier in the year.
Here is what Lee had to say in response to a fan question regarding a cameo:
“I did already. I can’t tell you what it is, but I can tell you I do not understand what it was or why I did it. It has me with a girl — a very pretty girl — that’s all I can tell you.”
In January Lee said that he would not be appearing in the film as he was not involved with the writing of the Guardians comic series.
“No, I’m afraid not. This the one group I didn’t create. I didn’t write Guardians of the Galaxy. I’m not even sure who they all are! I can’t wait to see the movie.”
While Lee did not write any of the Guardians comics he, Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers are credited with creating the character Groot. Lee and Kirby are also responsible for creating the characters Ronan the Accuser and The Collector.
Typically Lee only appears in films based on characters he helped create. This is why he did not show up in any of the Wolverine films. However he did not have a hand in creating Captain America, that is the creation of Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, yet appeared in those films, however that is possibly because Lee is credited with reviving the character and was the first writer to have Cap throw his shield.
