Microsoft is shutting down Xbox entertainment studios following large layoffs at the company.

Xbox entertainment studio is Microsoft’s in-house studio for producing original entertainment content for the Xbox brand. With the studios closing, Microsoft is hoping to streamline a number of portfolio and engineering developments across the Xbox brand.  The studio main job was producing content as a part of non-gaming options available on Xbox platforms. While Xbox entertainment studios opened to great fanfare as a way to produce and develop original content for the Xbox platforms, reports began coming in showing that Xbox entertainment studios was disorganized and didn’t have a business plan which in turn scared away potential partners and investors. These factors may have played a part in the decision to close the studio. Microsoft had initially pushed the Xbox One as a all in one entertainment hub and as a part of that push, Microsoft was going to create their own content for the system as well as licencing third part content.

Although Xbox entertainment Studios is closing, work will continue on series already in production including the Ridley Scott produced Halo Nightfall series, Halo TV series and the Signal to Noise documentary series.
