It seems like only yesterday the news broke that Jesse Eisenberg was cast as Lex Luthor in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie, and the geek community expressed their dissatisfaction. Zack Snyder is certainly aware of the criticism of this decision, however in an interview with the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday Snyder defended the casting.
He told the newspaper: “I think Jesse is going to be an amazing Lex. Let’s not forget he was nominated for an Academy Award. It’s not like I just grabbed my friend to play the guy! This guy’s the real deal.”
Snyder also defended his decision to cast Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Ben Affleck as Batman, both decisions the geek community were not thrilled with. The director said people need to “just stop it!”
“We know the material,” Snyder continued. “Unfortunately, the fans don’t know the material. So, we’re casting according to what’s happening in the script. And we’re hoping that leads to enough originality, enough perspective on what we’re doing that you get something fresh and exciting. I understand the canon. I’m not crazy. I know what these characters need from a mythological standpoint.”
Snyder said the film is expected to start shooting in a month. The “Man of Steel” sequel is set to hit theaters sometime in May of 2016.
Do you think Snyder is correct? Will Eisenberg make a good Lex Luthor? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
