When I watched It Follows the other night and talked about it on twitter I stated that It Follows was “uncomfortable” but that I couldn’t decide if that discomfort was good or bad. Still haven’t decided on that matter. Its a beautiful movie, excellently shot with an effective score that clearly shows the love and inspiration it draws from greats like George Romero and especially John Carpenter. However it’s got this story… this odd story… and while it IS [...]
Why had I never seen this movie before? It sat on my “to watch” list for the past year or so, especially since Netflix proudly featured the fact that they have a 115-minute director’s cut exclusive to Netflix. I watched it, finally, and had to wonder aloud why I never had before because this movie is 100% my interests.THE CONCEPT
Iron Sky is not exactly what one would call “high concept.” It’s an exploitation film with a $10 million budget. [...]
The Human Centipede III – Tom Six’s latest over-the-top offensiveness was released this week. Oh the reviews have been overwhelmingly negative, and they aren’t without merit. The acting and the story is FAR too over-the-top, the direction is narcissistic and offensive and the movie is downright disgusting. This is EXACTLY what America needs. Brian DePalma’s 1976 adaptation of the Stephen King novel Carrie is one of my favorite movies of all time – easily in my Top 10 (which is more of a phrase and not an actual list) which I’ve seen countless times. When DVD became a thing, the first movie I bought in this new format was Carrie. [...]
There was this movie that came out last year, a small release, Everly, from Joe Lynch (who previously directed The Knights of Badassdom). It got mostly negative reviews from critics but having watched the new Blu-Ray released for the movie earlier last week I feel it’s a movie worth watching, at least once. Of course it does happen to play in to my own personal tastes as far as action movies go so not everyone may have the same opinion.
Selma Hayek [...]
The other day I get a message from my sister asking: “Isn’t this how the planet of the apes started?” followed by a screenshot of a news post about a dog flu affecting local pets.
Indeed, according to a monologue in Escape from the Planet of the Apes and the backstory given in Conquest of the Planet of the Apes a flu killed all the dogs and cats so apes became the popular domesticated pet and the end [...]
